Becoming a successful unit...

Written by Nyretta Boshoff
Part 1
A Pod of Dolphins develop strong family ties through playing, hunting and procreating together.  We can learn alot about being a family, a church, a band, any unit by simply applying some of the principles found developing in the churning waves of the ocean.

1.  Dolphins will go to extraordinary  lengths to protect one another from predators and go to extraordinary lengths to try and save one that is ailing.  They understand the concept of having one anothers backs and have even been known to circle and protect human swimmers from sharks and support them when weak.  Families need to have each others backs.  I'd much rather boast about a family member, their attributes and successes, I have NEVER been able to understand how they can speak negatively about one another although this does not mean that we dont confront issues one to another.   There is a protection both physically and spiritually that comes from being part of a family!

2.  A family is responsible  for its own growth as individuals and as a team and to enlarge itself.  It is the responsibility of  the team to procreate!!  Growth through training and studying strengthens not only the individual, but the whole!!!

PART 2
3.Sometimes dolphins will form giant pods of over 1000 dolphins for feeding purposes.  At such times there is a bigger mission, working together thus they can round up huge schools of fish and the catch is greater, the impact greater. Through a series of clicks and whistles and knowing their place in the heirarchy forms them into a deadly hunting party. There is such a thing as strength in numbers and we must count ourselves blessed when we find ourselves being part of  a large group of humans with a strong mission and purpose eg a church with a strong leader and vision.   The stronger the unity, the purpose and sense of belonging the more effective the group will be.

4. Cross-Pollination helps us expand us and our giftings as people.  Rubbing Shoulders with peoples in other camps help us to expand our view on life and our vision.  Recently a dolphin was seen using a massive whale as a slide, both lifting high out of the water and the dolphin sliding down its back - this scene was sited on a number of occassions and scientists viewing the spectacle came to the conclusions that it was solely a recreational pursuit they were witnessing.
In Laguna, Santa Caterlini, Brazil, there is a co-operation between the fishermen and wild dolphins, where the dolphns will signal the fishermen and drive the fish into the fishing nets, the dolphins then get their share of the catch.

Cross-pollination help expand us and our giftings as people!!

5.  Recreation - Dolphins will play in the surf, ride waves and swim in the wake of a boat together.   Scientists suspect that this action strengthens family bonds and ties making for more loving relationships and creating more unity.
In whatever UNIT we find ourselves in, we need to remember that there is a time that work must be foremost, that we should be building in unity covering one anothers backs, that there is a time to gather in large groups and cross pollinate with those not exactly like us and then finally remember that Play and Recreation are vital.  Vital for the health of the individual aswell as for the Unit!!
